Conceptual practices from visual arts as a method in theater
This project explores new scenic strategies based on practices from the realm of visual art.
At a time when information technology and the media are increasingly using iconic images and conceptual thinking as the basis for communication strategies, it is essential that the performing arts develop a deliberate and analytically founded relationship with its use of concept and imagery. The art of theater is – historically – closely linked to the text. That is, a performance is generally based on a script, a written play, and the actors’ work focuses on communicating this text in ways that resonate psychologically with audiences. This pilot project examines methods for replacing parts of a text or radically reshaping the text by means of scenic images and actions, allowing the scenic elements to communicate on a par with the other aspects.
