Rhythmic design, embodiment and intuition

The project is an artistic investigation of the potential of rhythmic design as a method of embodying multitemporal movements and the musical fields of tension generated by them. Rhythmic design is a compositional tool and a starting point for improvisation developed by Peter Bruun. The overall ambition of the project is to develop an artistic practice-based method for embodying multitemporal movements, and to communicate this in a form that has relevance in various artistic processes as well as a learning tool.

In a societal perspective, the project focuses on the necessity and value of the creative process prior to a work, which contradicts a modern trend towards result and product-oriented art production.

The project draws on Bruun’s practice-based experience that the development of bodily understanding is crucial for realising the inherent potential of multi-temporal musical movement and that this is best achieved through different perspectives – the interaction between a structural understanding, through notation and graphics and an intuitive understanding through phrasing and the bodily experiences of multi-temporal tensions that rhythmic designs invite.
